Here are some basic tips to help you streamline your movie collection before things get out of control.

Put Everything in One Place

You can only begin to streamline your movie collection if you know where all of your films are. To make sure you know what you own, you need to begin assembling your movies in one location. Take a day to put all of your DVDs into one room of your home, helping to centralize the inventory you will need to do. Then you will want to take all of your movie files on your computer and move them to the desktop or to another folder which will allow you to see what you own. Of course, if you have let friends and family members borrow the movies you own, this step might be a little more difficult. To help yourself out, a week before you are ready to assemble your movie collection, email or call people who might have your movies so that you can have them all on hand for your organizational efforts.

What Haven’t You Watched?

Once you have your movie collection in one place, it’s time to start thinking about what you own. It’s time to think about what you own and what you have actually watched. Often, we collect movies because we are told they are good or they are given as gifts – but then we never watch them. Put your movies into two piles (or file folders): what I’ve watched and what I haven’t watched. This way, you can begin to see just how many movies you might need to start watching in order to make them worthwhile. As you are making these piles, you might realize that the movies you haven’t watched might be movies you would never miss if you got rid of them.

Which Movies Could You Repeatedly Watch?

You will also want to look at your movie collection to see what movies will certainly be watched again and again – those you will want to keep. These might be family favorites or they might be movies which have a special sentimental value to you. However, you might find that there are no movies you would watch more than a few times here and there, so they might not need to be a part of your permanent movie collection anymore.

In the same manner George Lucas and his team changed the history of film with technology that made the world of Luke Skywalker come to life, magic movies have brought the worlds imagination to life. By the time he finished his sixth movie in the Star Wars trilogy he had developed technology even further to go back and add to his first three movies to create scenes that we wanted to first create but were not possible at the time.

If you doubt how far magic in movies has come, you need to look no further than the serials that used to play before a feature in the golden years. There you can see the attempts of surreal imagery that we laugh at today. But in it’s hey day it wowed audiences and much as the watching a starship go into light speed today.

Companies such as Pixar have created animation and levity to film in movies such as toy story where the three dimensionality of their world seems real and not so real at the same time. Each year their technology advances and a great example of that is the newest Star Trek movie that puts William Shatner’s tribble trouble in the dark ages.

As new filmmakers emerge new technology is being created every day. We go to the movies to be entertained and the magic in movies about magic are that much better and it takes us away from our every day troubles and brings us to a world of make believe.

Reward yourself: If you think of your movie going experience as a reward, your choice of movies will change drastically, they will become more rewarding and fulfilling. Your reward can be anything, from a long work week, completing an overdue project, meeting someone new, treating a family member or friend to a special occasion. So with all these technical issues to consider, how do you choose the right movie for the right occasion? Easier said than done; but really, it is very easy. Here’s how:

It always helps to do a little research about any movie before going to see it; that way, you won’t be disappointed for shelling out a few bucks. Decide on the location first because that could mean driving for forty minutes to an hour, or just enjoying the luxury of in home entertainment. You may want to look up where the movie is playing, then call the theater to confirm and even book your ticket over the phone or internet, hassle free. For those movies not in theaters, you may choose to rent a DVD or borrow one from a friend.

If you decide to go the extra mile, the mall or distant theater, make it worth your while. When making your movie decision, never choose a movie that is liked by everyone, try something new unless you are convinced this is the one. Avoid the in-crowd opinion; the everybody-loves-it mentality. Look for a movie that stimulates you intellectually, solves a problem or one that meets a need, whether emotional, psychological, adventure, escapism, triumph or just for added knowledge and self improvement. You should always learn something at the end of your movie.

Here is an example: After watching The Cinderella Man, I learned that men are by design, made to be the strength of their family; and that courage is more than just word of mouth, it takes sacrificial actions and willingness to risk everything. In “Glory” with Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, I also learned that one man can make a difference in the lives of others, and that doing the not-so-popular things and going against the grain can be more rewarding than never challenging the powers that be. Therefore, if we all just stay in our little corners, a change will never come. There are risks in the establishment of greatness, and an even greater reward in ceasing each given moment.

Also, I remembered how I felt after seeing “A Beautiful Mind” with Russell Crowe, and “Field of Dreams” with Kevin Costner” or “Life” with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence, King of the Kick Boxers, with Billy Blanks, and “Everyone’s Fine” with Robert De Niro…just to name a few examples of great moments I have come to cherish over time. Some were filled with laughter, tears, triumph, courage, hopes and dreams; nevertheless, they were time well spent.

There are big benefits in choosing the right movie versus going the popularity route. And after watching this year’s Academy, you too will also realize that Hurt Locker was not the most talked about movie, but it sure took the spotlight over Avatar when all was said and done.

Some people choose movies based on their favorite actor/actress, but however you decide, a great movie makes for an even greater conversation with people you meet. Some movies will help to bridge the gap between people of varying nations, solve misunderstandings, and makes for great ice-breakers in uncomfortable settings.

I could go on and on, but here’s what I really want you to get from reading this article, your movie going should be a great experience that lifts your spirits, encourage you, make you cry at times and move you emotionally, open your eyes to new ideas, hidden truths and wildly adventures, bring people together, tear down barriers and build up new walls of hope and trust, and inspire people to dream, if only for a moment.

About two decades ago, many of us have a perception that kid’s channels are just merely cartoons. These cartoon programs may be entertaining but not as educational as the ones that you see now.

If you will notice, television channels are more aware and concerned about children’s morale and dreams. They became to realize that more and more kids have direct access to the television and it has been their top priority in terms of entertainment.

Television channels cater to different interests of young children and teenagers. These television channels can actually be considered as virtual teachers to our young ones. There are television channels who tell kids about different types of animals and their way of living. Some lectures about good manners, simple mathematics and reading. There are some who teaches kids how to tell time or even a foreign language and the list goes on and on.

Such television programs can further enrich a kid’s potential. Listed are the skills that they target:

a) Emotional and Social Skill – this is the ability of a child to interact with other people. Some television channels create stories that will teach them how to relate if the same situation happens.

b) Cognitive skill – this is the ability of a child to think on his own to solve certain problems. As mentioned, these programs help kids solve simple math problems. They let their minds think strategically.

c) Language and Speech skill – this is the ability of a child to understand and learn a specific language. This helps them to communicate their thoughts more clearly to others.

Personally, I want encourage parents to let your kids browse programs which aims for your child’s development. Who knows? You might be surprised that you kid knows how to as a favor from you in Spanish.

The television of years gone by has been, for the most part, replaced by the home theater system. A quality theater system can make your home viewing of television and movies much more enjoyable through the use of flat screen televisions, DVD/Blu-ray players and sound systems that can reproduce movie theater quality audio. And the use of digital technology has made these systems much more affordable for the average home owner.

The heart of any top-notch theater system is the view screen, and in today’s world of home electronics, nothing beats a large flat screen television. These televisions are available in multiple formats, including plasma, LED, and LCD varieties. Plasma screen TV’s are most often cited as being the best for crystal clear viewing pleasure. However, due to recent advancements that have been made in the industry, many LCD televisions offer an almost indistinguishable picture, but can do so with a much smaller price tag. And unlike plasma screen versions, LCD’s can be found in sizes that are smaller than 40 inches. This makes them better suited for the average household living room.

Movie quality audio reproduction is also important to a top notch home theater system. For most people, a simple receiver with a couple of desktop speakers is sufficient for their audio requirements. If, however, you want something that is capable of producing room shaking bass and crystal clear highs, a quality surround sound audio system is required. These systems can range in price considerably, depending on their components. However, for most systems a combination of quality receiver, two front speakers, two rear speakers and a subwoofer is more than adequate. But since the quality of these components can vary, it is important to do a bit of research before settling on any one system.

Many people will opt to install a number of other items in the search of the perfect home theater experience. It is becoming more common for homeowners to create a dedicated viewing room, complete with theater style furniture and in some cases even a concession stand. Theater style lighting and even curtains are sometimes used in an attempt to recreate a true to life theater experience.
